Man Finds Governor's Wedding Ring in Couch from Side of Road After It Went Missing in 1989
Losing something is never fun, but getting it back 29 years is nothing short of a miracle.
When Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant lost his wedding ring, he had given up hope and assumed it was lost for good.
Little did Bryant know, after several decades had passed, the ring would be given back to him.
A man that was later identified as Jeff Maher found the governor’s wedding ring “in an old couch,” Gov. Bryant told The Associated Press.
Maher reported the lost ring to the governor’s office after he discovered it in the couch, Clay Chandler, a spokesman for the governor told the AP.
The gold wedding band, in question, had very special significance as it was inscribed with Bryant’s initials and Dec. 31, 1976 — the governor and Deborah Bryant’s wedding date.
Interestingly, Bryant once owned the couch that held the ring, which Maher picked up on the side of the road outside the home of one of Deborah Bryant’s relatives.
Bryant and his wife had graciously given the couch to a cousin in 1989 without realizing the ring was lost inside.
This is the same year that the governor believes the ring went missing, Chandler told The Associated Press.
Bryant met with Maher personally to receive his ring once again. The two met in Copiah County and became instant friends.
Bryant posted on Twitter, “My friend Jeff Maher found my original wedding ring from 1976 in an old couch.”
“It had been lost since 1989. Thanks, Jeff!” he added.
Maher, we applaud your generous act of giving back. We hope there are more people like you out there as we all lose a thing or two here and there.
