Doctor Delivers Own Baby During Flight When Wife Goes into Labor at 42,000 Feet
The miracle of birth is a sight to be seen, but when it happens at 42,000 feet, it can get a little more complicated.
A pregnant Congolese woman was traveling with her husband from Central Africa to Istanbul, Turkey, on a Turkish Airlines flight, Inside Edition reported.
While the flight was going along just like any travel experience, the 21-year-old woman, Musuamba Michoukayembe, suddenly went into labor just three hours after takeoff.
Michoukayembe wasn’t expected to deliver her baby until next month, but when she felt some pains in her abdomen, she knew that her baby was about to arrive.
Not only did this unexpected baby arrival surprise Michoukayembe but she was relieved to remember that she had a doctor sitting right next to her — her husband.
Yes, as Michoukayembe started to deliver her baby, her husband was there to make sure that everything about the birth would be alright.
Michoukayembe’s husband safely delivered his own son midflight, assisting his wife through the entire birthing process.
The crew of the flight was also keen to assist and welcome this little baby into the world.
“It was a beautiful moment for us,” crew member Fatma Akyuz told Travel Noire. “We boarded with 144 passengers, but landed with 145 passengers.”
The crew cleaned the baby and cut the umbilical cord after the delivery. They even took some photos holding the new arrival and posted them on Twitter to the delight of their followers.
Because there were no complications during the birth, there was no need to divert the plane for a special landing.

“Since the birth was healthy, we continued our four-hour flight,” pilot Alper Akkaya told Travel Noire.
Michoukayembe held and cared for her little bundle of joy she named Bennel for the duration of the flight. The happy family was captured coming off the plane with their new son in tow.
Michoukayembe and her son were shuttled to a nearby hospital and are said to be doing well after the high-altitude experience.
Luckily for Michoukayembe, she was traveling with her doctor husband whose quick actions allowed for a smooth delivery. Congratulations to this happy family!
