4-Year-Old Brings Home 'Tooth' from Day Care, Mom Horrified After Realizing It's Cocaine
When a parent takes their child to daycare, they expect their child to be taken care of with the utmost professionalism.
For Sabrina Straker, her experience with a Bronx, New York, day care was beyond horrifying.
Straker’s daughter, Serenity, brought home from day care what she thought was a tooth from a friend.
The reality was that it was cocaine capsules, which Serenity had actually put in her mouth, according to WPIX.
Serenity had shown her mom the capsules Friday, which gave Straker quite a startle.
“This can’t be what I think it is,” Straker told WPIX “How did this get in the day care?”
Straker notified the police, and a narcotics detective tested the capsules. The results of the test confirmed that it was indeed crack cocaine.
Wasting no time, Straker rushed Serenity to a nearby hospital where she did test positive for cocaine after putting the capsules in her mouth.
“She could have died if she ingested this,” Straker said. “I was furious.”
Yvette Joseph, director at the Little Inventors Day Care, told WPIX that the drugs were thrown over the fence into the hands of a child.
“We checked our center thoroughly, and all of the children are safe,” Joseph said.
While police are investigating the incident, Straker wants the day care shut down for good.
She is suspicious of how the staff did not notice the capsules in the child’s hands.
The drugs looked familiarly like candy to the children and drew their attention easily.
“No one was watching the children,” she said. “There are 15 kids in the room with two teachers and two aides, where were they when this was going on?”
The police are looking into the day care’s involvement as a case of endangering the welfare of a child.
