50-Year-Old Blind Man Walks Over 400 Miles for Heartwarming Cause

Share

One man is showing just how big of a difference a little kindness can make. Rather than wait for someone else to take action, he’s giving more than a mile.

Fifty-year-old Robert Smith is not your average guy. Even though this man is 100 percent blind, he hasn’t let that stop him from walking for a change.

Or rather, walking for kindness. KSNV reported that Smith made it his mission to walk 450 miles from Long Beach to Las Vegas.

The reason? Smith was doing “The Kindness Walk” to raise money so that an autistic child could have a service dog,

It all started on Oct. 19. Smith set out on a journey that included crossing Death Valley. Along the way, he’s stopped to visit veterans and give sock puppets to kids.

But his kindness didn’t stop with just one child in need. Smith’s dreams reach much farther. According to his GoFundMe page, this man has his eggs in several baskets.

He’s partnered “with Life Long Dreams, a non-profit who works with disabled individuals and teaches the arts to those challenged.”

Smith also hopes to “raise enough funds to send our deployed soldiers 1,000 game towels by Christmas time.”

These are just a few examples of the ways he’s making a difference, too. In the end, he really just hopes to inspire others.

“For all you blind people or deaf people, people in wheelchairs, anybody that’s depressed. Get up. Walk,” he told KSNV.

“Let’s walk away diabetes, let’s walk away blood pressure,” he continued. “Let’s walk away stroke, let’s walk away all that garbage. That’s what I’m here to do. That’s why Jesus sent me here to do it.”

Truly inspiring words from a man who refuses to let a disability hold him back. Smith has set a good example to everyone who hears his story.

The Kindness Walk GoFundMe campaign has raised $1,000 — its total goal. But that doesn’t mean kindness has to stop. For more information on this project and others, visit thekindnesswalk.org.
