Philadelphia icon Sylvester Stallone buries Patriots with one perfect photo
“Yo Tommy, it’s me, Rocky!”
As the hype for next week’s Patriots-Eagles Super Bowl starts heating up, one of Philadelphia’s most iconic figures is weighing in.
No, we’re not talking about Pat’s or Geno’s, we’re talking about none other than Rocky Balboa himself, Sylvester Stallone.
The 71-year-old actor is working on “Creed 2,” the eighth movie in the “Rocky” series, but it still looks like he could take on Apollo Creed.
Stallone posted a video this week in which he talked about his longtime love of the Eagles.
“Yo Eagles!” he said. “In case you haven’t guessed it by now, I am a die-hard fan. I’ve been bitten by the Eagles bug since I was around 15 years old.”
Stallone’s “Rocky” series is full of memorable lines, some humorous, others inspirational, and he’s using them to try to get the Eagles fired up.
But he delivered a knockout blow with his Instagram post Friday.
The edited image depicts Stallone as Rocky in Eagles gear, facing off against his hated Soviet rival from “Rocky IV,” Ivan Drago, in a Tom Brady jersey. We all know how that movie ended.
Ouch.
Stallone followed it up with another shot Saturday.
That’s not the only “Rocky” factor in the days leading up to the Super Bowl.
Instead of the predictable “lobster vs. cheesesteak” bet, the mayors of Brockton, Massachusetts, and Philadelphia have come up with a creative wager for the big game.
Boxing fans know that Brockton was home of the only undefeated heavyweight champion in history, the original “Rocky,” Rocky Marciano.
Anyone who saw “Rocky III” remembers when Philadelphia unveiled a statue of Stallone’s character there.
So how about a battle of the statues?
The “Rocky v. Rocky” Super Bowl wager is on w/ @PhillyMayor Jim Kenney. The losing Rocky will wear the team garb of the #SuperBowlLII Champs! Mayor Kenney will also put up a keg of “Yards” beer against our Rocky Marciano wine. @stevedamish_ENT @Patriots @JoshBrogadirTV pic.twitter.com/XbbGsHCOPQ

The loser’s statue has to wear the team garb of the Super Bowl champs.
That could get ugly — just as ugly as the hulking brute Drago’s face at the end of “Rocky IV.”
Brady and the Patriots hope they’ll avoid a similar beating by underdog Philadelphians.
