LaVar Ball now being promoted to head coach
I guess we shouldn’t be surprised.
After all, we should know by now there are no surprises when LaVar Ball is involved.
Whether it’s creating a $495 basketball shoe, vowing to home-school one son so he doesn’t have to play in high school, or pulling another out of UCLA, we’ve learned to expect the unexpected when it comes to the Ball patriarch.

This all leads us to the latest development: LaVar Ball, head coach.
Apparently, being a coach/parent on the sideline wasn’t enough, because Ball is taking over on the bench for BC Vytautas Prienai in the finals of the Big Baller Brand Challenge Games.
Vytautas signed Ball’s sons — 16-year old LaMelo and 19-year old LiAngelo — late last year. The team decided to drop out of the Baltic League to participate in the BBBC Games.
After barely registering a blip during league play, the Ball brothers exploded on Tuesday in a 147-142 victory over BC Dzukija Alytus.
LaMelo Ball, who is considered the more talented of the duo, put up 43 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds and four steals. LiAngelo, who wasn’t slated to be a major contributor at UCLA, had 36 points, seven rebounds and five assists, as their father served as assistant coach.
But now LaVar Ball is the man in charge, and it starts with his “Operation Beatdown” pregame speech.

You’ll remember that Ball made headlines when he told ESPN that the Lakers — who employ his other son, Lonzo — “don’t want to play” for coach Luke Walton.
Which makes this comment even more interesting.
Lavar Ball told Sportando that "LaMelo Ball will remain with Vytautas the next couple of years before going to the NBA".

He told a reporter in Lithuania that LiAngelo will only be spending one year in Lithuania because “next year he will be a Laker.”
Guess we’ll have to wait to see if Ball is going to actually buy the Lakers, take over as general manager, or even coach the team.
You have to wonder if Walton, Magic Johnson and the rest of the Lakers management are rethinking their decision to bring the Ball family into their world.
But then again, they shouldn’t be surprised with what they got.
