Governor issues message to residents about what to do during Super Bowl anthem
Considering that the biggest storyline of the NFL season involved national anthem protests, perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise that the specter of national anthem protests is lingering over the biggest game of the NFL season.
The issue peaked in notoriety and coverage in September when President Donald Trump ripped NFL players who protested the national anthem.
Fuel was further thrown on the fire when the NFL announced that musical artist Pink would sing the national anthem before the Super Bowl.
Pink has made no secret about her disdain for Trump, and nobody would be surprised if she used that platform to make a political statement.
Rest assured, for one reason or another, people will be tuning in to watch the national anthem prior to the Super Bowl.
One of those people will apparently be South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster.
And McMaster had one big request for all residents of his state — or rather, an actual proclamation for his fellow South Carolinians.

McMaster asked the people of South Carolina to exemplify the “state’s resolute commitment to supporting our troops.”
To do so, he simply asked that everyone in South Carolina stand for the national anthem, regardless of where they are.
McMaster even went as far as to proclaim Feb. 4, 2018 as “Stand For The Flag Super Bowl Sunday.”
It’s a patriotic gesture that should curry bipartisan favor for the Republican governor.
McMaster isn’t standing on a soap box and yelling for a ban or boycott of the NFL. Instead, he simply wants his people to respect and honor the military and tradition of the national anthem.
Of note, the NFL team in McMaster’s neighboring state, the Carolina Panthers, have exemplified respect for the national anthem.
Not a single Panthers player has ever sat, knelt or raised a fist during the national anthem.
Super Bowl LII will be a rematch of Super Bowl XXXIX between the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles.
The game will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. Eastern TIme and will be played at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
