Trump shocks baseball world with official statement on Yankees' All-Star hitter
President Donald Trump and the Yankees really do have a lot in common.
Obviously, they’re both the definition of New York.
In each of their areas, they’ve won the biggest prize.
And, of course, you either love them or hate them — there’s not much in-between.
Trump has never been afraid to speak his mind on anything.
On Friday morning, the president appeared on WABC-AM’s “Bernie and Sid” show, and the leader of the free world made it clear that his heart will always be in the Big Apple.
Trump predicted big things for the New Big Thing in pinstripes, Giancarlo Stanton. The Yankees acquired last year’s MLB home run champ in an offseason trade with the Marlins.

“The Yankees, what they did with Stanton, that’s going to be, I think that’s going to be a great one,” he said. “That’s one that almost, famous last words, that’s a player that almost can’t fail.
“But I guess, you know, people have said that about players before, only to have them bust. But I think he’s going to be great.”
This might be a time to point out that Trump hasn’t always been spot-on with his sports predictions.
While Stanton has three home runs heading into Friday’s action, he’s also lugging around a .185 batting average.
Oh, and he was booed by Yankee fans after striking out five times in their home opener.
Trump was asked a good question: If he had tickets to the Yankees and Mets home openers, they were at the same time, and he could only go to one, which game would he pick?
For a man known for speaking his mind, perhaps the president is getting the hang of being neutral.
“You really do, you’re going to have two exciting teams and I want them both to do well,” he said. “I hate to be political. See, in the old days, I wouldn’t have answered the question that way. In the old days, I would have told you. But I really like the [Mets owners] Wilpons a lot, and Randy Levine [Yankees president] and the Steinbrenners [Yankees owners], these are phenomenal people, and so I’ll take a pass. But I really enjoy both teams a lot.”
Uh-huh.
If, by chance, a team other than the Yankees or Mets happens to win the World Series, do you think Trump’s words Friday might get brought up again?
