Watch: Mitt Romney taunts NBA MVP in the middle of a brutal loss

Share

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is dead set on endearing himself to Utah voters as he looks to win the soon-to-retire Orrin Hatch’s Senate seat.

Romney’s serious enough that he’s apparently become a big Utah Jazz fan. And though it’s not clear how much Romney actually knows about basketball, he’s catching on quick.

The 2012 GOP presidential nominee had courtside tickets in Salt Lake City on Monday night for Game 4 of the first-round series between the Jazz and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

He even had his own customized jersey and nameplate. Romney wore the number of ex-Jazz guard Rodney Hood, who was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier this season.

The best part of Romney being at the game came late in the second quarter of the Jazz’s victory. After Thunder guard Russell Westbrook picked up his fourth foul of the game, TNT’s cameras caught Romney mocking the reigning NBA MVP.

Romney held up four fingers and mouthed the word “four.”

An act of taunting from a failed presidential candidate just added insult to injury for Westbrook and the Thunder. Westbrook did score 23 points with 14 rebounds and three assists, but the Thunder lost 113-96 and now trail in the series 3-1.

Do you think the Thunder will rebound to win Game 5?

Things haven’t been going terribly well recently for Romney either, who found out Saturday that he did not win the GOP nomination for the Senate seat and will now have to face a primary challenger.

The clear winners, at least in the case of Romney taunting Westbrook, were the non-Thunder fans who got to watch it happen.

And the reaction from those fans, particularly on Twitter, was nothing short of amazing.

The Thunder, now on the brink of elimination, will host the Jazz for Game 5 on Wednesday.
