Broncos RB injured after reportedly helping stop police chase
Broncos running back De’Angelo Henderson was called an “accidental hero” after he inadvertently helped stop a high-speed police chase Saturday in the Denver suburbs and ended up in the hospital.
Anderson was driving his Jeep to pick up some barbecue takeout for himself and his fiancee just before 8 p.m. when he was T-boned by a woman fleeing police in a stolen vehicle, according to KUSA-TV‘s Mike Klis.
The impact sent the 25-year-old running back flying as his Jeep rolled over and landed wheels up.
“Everybody who was talking to the police said I was airborne and I flipped in the air and I landed on another car and I rolled after that,” Anderson told Klis in an interview.
He was able to get out of the vehicle on his own but was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Tests revealed no internal bleeding, and he was released.
Anderson suffered a slightly sprained ankle and shoulder, but he knows it could have been much, much worse.
“I’m truly blessed that God protected me through this accident,” he said in an Instagram post Monday. “Without his favor I don’t know if I would’ve survived. I’m thankful to only came out with minor injuries and a few scrapes and bruises.”
Three other people were hospitalized with injuries from the crash, and Anderson acknowledged them in his post.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the other victims and I hope they all are safe and doing well,” he said.
Anderson finished with a Bible verse, Jeremiah 29:11: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'”

According to KUSA-TV, police named 37-year-old Rainbow Sunset Espinoza as the driver of the stolen vehicle.
The report said she is facing 11 charges, including stealing a vehicle, driving recklessly, driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, evading police, failing to turn on her headlights, driving a car without plates, driving while her license was revoked, running red lights, criminal mischief, possession of burglary tools and second-degree assault with a deadly weapon.
Anderson was a sixth-round pick out of Coastal Carolina and played briefly for the Broncos last season as a rookie, gaining 13 yards on seven carries.
With Denver’s release of C.J. Anderson in the offseason, he has the opportunity for more playing time in 2018 as the No. 2 running back behind Devontae Booker.
“I’ll be ready for OTAs next week,” he told Klis.
