'Space Jam 2' trailer reportedly holds answer to LeBron's destination

Share

When LeBron James said he was going to “take my talents to South Beach” and sign with Miami, it was a nationally televised special on ESPN.

When James announced, “I’m coming home” to Cleveland, it was a cover story in Sports Illustrated.

Whatever James decides this offseason, it appears that he’s got his announcement covered in a multi-media type of way.

First, longtime business partner Maverick Carter hinted in a Wall Street Journal feature that James will announce his decision on Uninterrupted, a media site that James owns.

OK, that’s pretty logical and straightforward.

The Basketball Society Online’s Brandon Robinson says James is going all social media and film to spread the word.

“In addition, once James announces his decision, he will utilize the Instagram TV app to launch a trailer and/or a documentary for his ‘Space Jam 2’ that we’ve waited forever and a day to see,” Robinson said.

You’ll remember that “Space Jam” was a popular movie in 1996, starring Michael Jordan alongside popular Looney Tunes characters like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.

It’s interesting to hear of this possibility, given that with the production required, James would have to have made his decision already.

Is LeBron James hurting his reputation if he changes teams again?

Justin Lin, the writer and director for “Space Jam 2,” says that putting aside where James may play, the task of putting together the movie can be overwhelming.

“I feel like I’ve done nine different iterations already and we’re going to keep going. But we’re getting closer every day. To be able to … in a relevant way, bring the Looney Tunes back, that’s something that’s very important to me to do it right.”

Landon Buford of Hype Magazine hinted that the trailer will spill the beans, and he knows LeBron’s destination.

“The reasoning behind it is that the contents of this said trailer will state where the King is actually going,” Buford said. “The person who informed me of this supposed trailer also indicated what team the King is going to.”

James must inform Cleveland of whether he will opt in to his contract for next season by midnight Friday.

NBA free agency tips off at midnight Sunday. Teams and players can reach tentative agreements, but can’t finalize them until July 6.

And there’s no doubt the biggest announcement will be where James decides to land for the coming season.
