Report: Steph Curry's Alma Mater Will Not Retire His Jersey Until He Gets His Degree
Quick: Where did Steph Curry play college basketball?
Of course you said “Davidson,” as an astute reader of the The Wildcard.
But Davidson College is not exactly a basketball factory that churns out NBA players.
In fact, Curry is by far the greatest hoops player ever to come out of the North Carolina school.
In 2008, Curry took the Davidson Wildcats to the Elite 8 and came within a whisker of beating the eventual national champion, Kansas, losing 59-57.
The school hadn’t made the Elite 8 since 1969, when the just 25 schools competed in the tournament, and hasn’t had that much success since.
So, you would think Curry would be a no-brainer to have his number retired, make the school Hall of Fame, and heck, maybe even have a statue on campus.
But, no, that’s not the case.

A TMZ Sports reporter asked his coach at Davidson, Bob McKillop, why.
“I think he’s in the process of completing his degree,” McKillop said.
TMZ Sports followed up with the school’s athletic director Chris Clunie, who said that is, indeed, the case.
Clunie told TMZ that Curry is actively working on his degree and as soon as he gets it, his jersey will be retired.
The AD added that the school is “extremely proud” of all that Curry has accomplished on and off the court.

McKillop also heaped praise on his former player when asked by TMZ about what he saw in Curry out of high school.
“Tremendous humility, work ethic, coachability, incredible toughness, and wanted to be a great teammate,” said McKillop.
“I think there should be a statue of him in San Francisco … as well as Davidson,” Curry’s former coach added.
Curry left Davidson for the NBA in 2009, after playing his junior year.
The last Davidson basketball player named to the Davidson Athletic Hall of Fame was Brandon Winters, son of former NBA player Brian Winters, who graduated in 2006.
