Recently Retired NFL Star Ignites Crowd at Conservative Event Just Before Trump Takes Stage
Former NFL tight end Ben Watson, who just recently retired after a heartbreaking season with the New Orleans Saints, is not your typical NFL pass catcher.
Unlike some of his contemporaries who are obsessed with their “brand,” Watson has always been concerned with far more important issues.
That alone makes Watson a far cry from some of the diva-esque pass catchers in the league, such as Odell Beckham Jr., Travis Kelce and Dez Bryant.
And while he carved out a solid, if unspectacular, 14-year career with the Saints, New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens, Watson will be remembered more for the work he’s done off the gridiron.
Spurred on by his powerful faith, he has become a prominent pro-life and pro-family voice.
When Watson took the stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday near Washington, D.C., his fans knew what to expect.
That didn’t make his speech any less powerful.
“Children are a blessing, while society would tell you they are not,” Watson said. “Family is a gift ordained by our creator. If should be cherished, not mocked. Upheld, not ridiculed. Kept together, not torn apart.”

“Family is the most important and powerful weapon when it comes to changing culture,” he said.
Watson also has never been shy about addressing the role that fathers and men need to play.
“Men, it is past time that we be the leaders, caretakers and providers that we were meant to be,” Watson said at the 2017 March for Life. “We, as men, must stand up for the lives of the innocent and their mothers in crisis.”
Watson reiterated the power of family and fatherhood at CPAC.
“All studies point to the fact that many social ills would be eradicated if fathers, if men, would do what we are called to be,” he said.

When you factor in just how defiantly pro-life Watson is, having previously called abortion “the ultimate form of racism,” it becomes abundantly clear how much of a breath of fresh air he is among today’s athletes.
And who knows? Maybe if the NFL had more players cut from a similar cloth as Watson, the league would be in better shape.
