Watch: NBA Star Points Glory to God After Huge Performance in Playoff Win

Share

Despite not having superstar center Joel Embiid, the Philadelphia 76ers cruised to a 131-115 road win over the Brooklyn Nets to take a 2-1 series lead in their Eastern Conference first-round playoff series on Thursday.

In Embiid’s absence, several other Sixers stars stepped up to replace his production.

Ben Simmons led the team with 31 points, sharpshooter J.J. Redick shot 55 percent from beyond the arc to drop 26 points and grizzled veteran Jimmy Butler chipped in another 16 points.

But the game of the night easily belonged to Sixers forward Tobias Harris.

The 26-year-old pending free agent dropped 29 points, gobbled up 16 rebounds and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the three-point stripe. It was, for all intentions, the perfect audition for a max contract in the offseason, be it from the Sixers or another team.

But the best part of Harris’ performance actually took place in the immediate aftermath of the game.

Will the Sixers make the NBA Finals?

“Tobias, you know you were struggling a little bit with your shot coming into (the) playoffs,” TNT broadcast interviewer Rosalyn Gold-Onwude said to Harris. “And now you’ve strung together some really strong games. What have you figured out?”

Harris’ response did not disappoint.

“First off, just all glory to God,” Harris said. “You know, obviously like you said, (I’ve been) struggling a little bit. Go back home, every night, every day, pray on it, put the work in, good things come about.”

That’s an awesome sentiment for Harris to share. Despite potentially costing himself millions of dollars with some late-season struggles, Harris persevered, prayed and put the work in. It paid off with a stellar performance in a crucial playoff game.

And he gave all the credit in the world to God and his faith.

Those who have followed Harris on social media were probably not surprised by his comments. The scoring forward has never been shy about his faith and relationship with God.

After a stat-stuffing debut for the Sixers, Harris publicly thanked God on Twitter.

When Harris was traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Sixers, basically going from a fringe playoff team to a legitimate title contender, Harris again cited God for the good in his life.

Harris and the Sixers will look to take a commanding 3-1 series lead when they play Game 4 in Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon.
