Watch: MLB Player Wins Game with Fantastic Catch, Mocks Home Fans

The Cincinnati Reds shut out the New York Mets 1-0 Wednesday in a game that ended on a spectacular sliding catch by Reds left fielder Jesse Winker.

With two outs and no one on, the Mets were down to their final out.

Brandon Nimmo stepped up against reliever Michael Lorenzen, just one swing of the bat away from tying the game.

On a 0-1 pitch, Lorenzen lofted a fly ball down the left field line. It drifted out of play toward the stands, but Winker stayed on it.

Nearing the wall, he slid and managed to catch the ball for the final out.

Mets fans were leaning over the railing, no doubt giving him some “encouraging words” as he caught the ball.

But Winker gave it right back to them, waving bye-bye to the home team’s fans.

It’s not the first time the 25-year-old has had a comical interaction with someone in the crowd.

Just moments before Winker’s catch Wednesday, Jose Iglesias blasted a home run with two outs and no one on in the top of the ninth against Mets closer Edwin Diaz. It proved to be the margin of victory.

“It was a great game all around. It was a great pitching game all around,” Iglesias said, reported MLB.com. “I put a pretty good swing and hit it on the right spot.”

Reds starter Anthony DeSclafani was brilliant, allowing three hits and no runs with eight strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. Zach Duke (2-1) came on in relief and got the win. Lorenzen got the save, his second.

Will the Mets make the playoffs?

Mets starter Jacob deGrom was equally good, giving up three hits and no runs in seven innings with six strikeouts.

Diaz (0-2) got the loss.

The Reds improved to 13-17, while the Mets fell to 15-15. They are now two games behind the Phillies in the NL East.
