Parents with Famous Sextuplets Photo Are Back with Family Photo 34 Years Later
Do you remember Janet and Graham Walton and their adorable sextuplets? The six girls were born in Liverpool in 1983, famously the world’s first all-female surviving sextuplets.
The girls are all grown up now, with careers of their own. And Janet and Graham are savoring the lovely addition of their very first grandchild.
After years of trying to conceive and a dozen failed fertility treatments, the Walton’s decided to try one final time.
They were thrilled to find out they were pregnant, and stunned when they found out six babies were on the way.
The girls were born at 31-weeks, all six healthy and thriving. The proud, excited parents named their daughters Hannah, Ruth, Luci, Kate, Jennie and Sarah.
Janet Walton recalled being hospitalized at just eight weeks pregnant, to maximize the chances that her babies would be born healthy.
She didn’t have time to prepare her home, and in no way could have prepared to care for six babies at once.
“We lived through those early years in a blur,” Janet expressed. “And the only regret is that there wasn’t enough time to enjoy them as much as we’d have liked.”
The girls grew up a close-knit family, and say they are still close today.
In 2014, Sarah became a new mom with the birth of her daughter, Jorgie.
Memories of sleepless nights and sheer exhaustion come flooding back to Janet and Graham whenever Sarah mentions feeling tired.
For the first two years, Janet said, she and her husband rarely slept — maybe a couple hours a night.
“I loved those early years so much,” Graham Walton expressed. “I couldn’t say one phase was better than the others.”
“But there was always so much to do, we didn’t enjoy it as much as we would if we’d had one at a time,” he said, excited to be a grandparent to just one baby, for now. “With grandchildren, you have time.”
Janet Walton said she felt fiercely protective of her granddaughter from the very beginning. “It flooded into me the moment I saw the pictures from her first scan,” she expressed.
Enjoy that grandbaby, Janet and Graham! You’ve certainly earned it!
