Cops Respond to Burglary Call. Age 93 Victim Starts Playing Piano When They Arrive

Share

Police officers have a difficult job. They are faced with danger on a daily basis and many times risk their lives for others. And sometimes, that job earns a gift back in the form of gratitude.

It was a routine day for two officers in Nottinghamshire, England. They were doing their daily rounds and decided to check in on an elderly man.

Months earlier, there had been a burglary in the 93-year-old man’s home, so the officers wanted to make sure that he was okay.

But their visit quickly turned into a social call. The elderly gentleman began to talk about his past as the officers patiently listened.

“He shared stories about him ‘getting his wings’, being a pilot, the war, and sadly the loss of his beloved wife on Christmas Eve a few years ago,” wrote an officer on the Mansfield Police Facebook page.

Then one officer saw something that would bring a bit of joy to the older man.

He noticed a piano in the living room with a piece of Chopin resting in the music stand.

The conversation switched to the officer’s late grandmother who had also loved Chopin.

Soon, the officer was sitting at the piano, his fingers running over the keys, playing one of the man’s favorite songs.

The man’s amazing reaction was caught on video by the other officer. His hands were moving along to the music as if he, too, was playing the piano.

“It truly made me feel good about myself and the job I do,” the officer continued on Facebook, after he saw the joyful response of the man.

It’s not every day that men on the police force receive applause while on the job.

This video is truly a heartwarming reminder of how the little things can make a big difference in someone’s life.

The officers also noted that the man was truly grateful that they had taken the time to check on him.

Both policemen went above the call of duty by taking the time to provide the service of companionship to a 93-year old man living alone.

In return, both men received the gift of knowing how important their jobs are, no matter how small the task may seem.
