Caretaker Slaps Age 78 Dementia Patient, But Daughter Caught It All on Hidden Camera

Share

The video footage of a caretaker’s violence against a dementia patient has understandably led to much outrage. It’s heartbreaking to see a vulnerable person being treated so terribly.

The consequence of the caretaker’s actions, or rather, the lack of consequences, has resulted in even more outrage.

The family put their trust in Stacey George, 46, to be the caretaker for their 78-year-old mother, Sabina Marsden.

Marsden has dementia. In August 2015, her husband, Malcolm, died.

Daughters Gina Owen and Mandy Aston took on the responsibility of caring for their mom. They were able to be care for her in the evenings and on weekends, but needed outside help during the day.

“We promised our dad when he died that we would never put mum in care and we feel like we’ve let him down,” Aston told the Mirror. They hired George, who severely let everyone down with her treatment toward Marsden.

Marsden’s health was deteriorating, and her daughters suspected abuse. They were advised to set up hidden cameras in the home.

On June 13, 2017, Owen witnessed a horrifying scene unfold while viewing the footage from her cell phone at work.

Marsden was sitting on a couch with a blanket while George sat on the opposite side of the couch.

When Marsden began to put her hand under the blanket, George slapped her wrist several times. Each strike seemed to get more aggressive.

The elderly woman simply responded by rubbing her wrist where she had been slapped. “God, you stink,” the caregiver commented as she forcefully grabbed the blanket from Marsden.

Owen rushed home to protect her mother from further harm. When she entered, she told George, “I’m gonna have to tell you to go home.”

She then explained to George that she witnessed her mother being slapped thanks to a hidden camera. George explained this was the first time she treated Owen’s mother that way and said, “I didn’t mean to upset you. I’m sorry.”

George was issued a police caution after Owen reported the assault to the police. Marsden’s daughters believe that in order for justice to be served, George should get more than a “slap on the wrist.”

Marsden’s eating, sleeping, and talking abilities have improved now that she no longer has George as her caretaker.

Every video of elderly abuse is extremely upsetting, but we are happy to hear that Marsden is in better health after such a terrible discovery.
