Age 3 Girl Devastated by Mom's Miscarriage, Sheds Tears in Delivery Room 5 Years Later
Miscarriage often does not only affect the baby and grieving parents. The entire family can be greatly affected.
Brooke Davis was 3 years old when she learned she was going to be a big sister. Her mom, Kelsey Davis, was pregnant.
After Davis announced to her daughter, family, and friends the exciting news, she had a miscarriage.
Even though she was quite young, Brooke was devastated and shed many tears over the loss of the baby.
Davis had two more miscarriages before she got pregnant again in 2015 with a Christmas Day due date. Brooke was delighted to meet her new baby sister, Ellie, and their sisterly bond was instant.
It worked out so that Brooke was present when her sister was born. She was shaped by the life-altering experience of witnessing life being brought into the world.
When Davis was pregnant again in 2017, Brooke would be 8 years old by the time the newest baby, Summer, was born.
Brooke definitely wanted to be in the room again during birth and brought up the topic with her mom.
But this time, merely being present wasn’t enough for Brooke. She was so excited by the prospect of a new little one that she wanted to be a more crucial part of the big day.
Davis told PEOPLE, “It was all her idea. For Summer, she wanted to be a little more involved.”
The 8-year-old walked the halls with her mom, massaged her mom’s feet, danced with her, and made sure her mom stayed hydrated throughout labor.
She even wanted to participate further by catching the baby and cutting the umbilical cord.
Davis had previously prepared her for the realities of birth, including preparing for what the baby would look like and feel like. After 36 hours of labor, baby Summer was ready to be born.
“I pushed two times and the baby’s head popped out. Brooke prepared by putting her hands with her dads to help catch her newest baby sister, and about one minute after her head came out, so did her sweet little body,” Davis shared with Love What Matters.
Five years ago, Brooke was crying out of heartbreak over Davis’ miscarriage. This January, she was crying tears of joy as she helped catch her baby sister.
The look on Brooke’s face says it all, and she even wants to become a midwife when she grows up.
