Country Music Star Tim McGraw Collapses on Stage
It’s far too easy to let a sheen of otherworldliness coalesce around celebrities.
After all, they’re talented, famous, and attractive, so much so that they scarcely seem human — right?
Take, for instance, Tim McGraw. The hugely popular country music star has pulled down scads of awards from the Academy of Country Music, Billboard, the Grammys, and the Country Music Association, just to name a few.
He’s also married to singer Faith Hill, and the duo comprise one of popular music’s most powerful and enduring couples.
But an incident on March 11 showed that McGraw is every bit as human as the rest of us.
McGraw was performing at the 3Arena in Dublin as a part of the C2C: Country To Country Festival.
The gathering of mostly American acts provides a play on words in its very name, with numerous country music performers traveling to the three nations of England, Ireland, and Scotland.
While in the middle of performing his top-charting hit “Humble and Kind,” McGraw suddenly sank to his knees. Then he leaned back and sat down.
The lights went down, and a hubbub began in the audience. Attendees began to wonder just what had happened to the talented musician.
McGraw is far from the only singer to take a tumble on stage recently. The 67-year-old rock and blues troubadour Chris Rea grabbed his microphone during a set at the New Theater Oxford on December 9, 2017 before falling to the stage.
His collapse had terrified fans due to the gravel-voiced singer’s tenuous health. Rea had survived pancreatic cancer in 2001 and suffered a stroke in 2016, but concert organizers were quick to say that he was stable after the show abruptly ended.
While performing in Canada in 2016, the bombastic American singer Meat Loaf (aka Marvin Lee Aday) dropped his mic, fell forward, and the rolled over on the stage. Audiences initially thought it was part of the show.
However, his spokesman soon revealed the reason why the Loaf’s legs had gone out from under him: He was suffering from dehydration.
That’s exactly what seems to have felled McGraw, too. About 20 minutes after he was whisked off stage, Hill appeared to explain the situation to the audience.
“We’ve all been a little bit dehydrated, traveling so much,” she said. “So drink water, people! Always keep yourself hydrated.”
