Woman Rescues Queen Bee, Forms Unlikely Bond With Bee That You Have to See to Believe

Share

My kids love “Bee Movie.” It’s about this bee (obviously) who forms a friendship with a human. Fiction, right?

Wrong. Or at least in the case of Iverness, Scotland native, Fiona Presly.

It’s one of those things you have to see to believe. Most people I know, myself included, tend to run when a bee draws near.

Don’t get me wrong, I love honey. I’m just terrified of getting stung.

But Presly didn’t shy away from the chance to do a queen bee a little good. When she saw the small creature in trouble, she quickly took action.

“I found her when we were getting work done in the garden,” she shared in an interview. “… it was lucky I didn’t stand on her.”

It turns out the poor thing was wingless. Presly could have left her to die, as bumblebees don’t tend to live longer than eighteen weeks.

But Presly wouldn’t have it. She built “Bee” a special garden of her very own, and the two became inseparable after that.

“People have a bond with their dog or cat and even their hamster,” Presly said. “I think I’ve proved here that you can have a relationship with an insect.”

The photos don’t lie. And these are certainly worth a thousand words.

Though “Bee” has passed on since the two bonded back in April of 2017, Presly lives with the memory of their unlikely friendship. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone from around the world (literally) for your most beautiful comments in response to my story about Bee,” she wrote in a Facebook post.

“The rapport I had with Bee was something special,” Presly continued. “Treat them with kindness and respect and I’m sure you will learn to appreciate them too… “

I think it’s safe to say the attention “Bee” has received is a sign these creatures may be seen in a new light in the future. Thank you, Fiona, for reminding us that kindness comes in all shapes and sizes.
