Cast of 'Dawson's Creek' Makes Jaw Dropping Announcement 20 Yrs after First Episode

Share

For those of us who came of age in the late ’90s and the early 2000s, we can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when we hear the lyrics to Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want to Wait.” The theme song for “Dawson’s Creek” became iconic during the popular show’s run, and now it’s nearly impossible not to think of Joey, Dawson, and Pacey when the tune plays.

Though the series only ran for six seasons, it is remembered and revisited by fans to this day. Twenty years have passed since the first episode aired in 1998, and its stars have gone on to bigger and better things.

Recently, Michelle Williams, who played bombshell Jen Lindley on the show, amazed fans when she broke out in song as Charity Barnum in “The Greatest Showman.” Joshua Jackson (a.k.a. Pacey Witter) grew in popularity for his more serious role as Peter Bishop in TV’s sci-fi drama “Fringe,” and Katie Holmes stepped up her game from tomboy Joey Potter to the elegant Jackie Kennedy in the powerful mini-series, “The Kennedys.”

Now the cast is back together again, and fans are going to flip. The 20th anniversary reunion photo shoot has given these long-time friends a chance to reminisce about their youthful days on the “Dawson’s Creek” set.

“I think we’ve all sort of seen each other over the years, but not everybody all together. And never for long enough,” Holmes shared with Entertainment Weekly.

There’s no doubt this show was something special and still resonates with fans today. “I loved that we were able to get in there in those formative years for people,” Academy Award nominee Williams commented.

Many faithful viewers mourned the show’s end after only six seasons. Though the finale wrapped up the story nicely, fans are still begging for more.

With Netflix comebacks like “Fuller House” and “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” it’s not unfathomable to speculate a “Dawson’s Creek” reboot may lie in the future. But the cast seems to be against the idea, and Dawson himself (James Van Der Beek) is apparently not so hip on the nostalgic theme song.

Though he told Entertainment Weekly, “I remember loving the script. I remember thinking everyone was amazing,” Van Der Beek has also said the show’s theme song sends him into hiding.

Whether a follow up to the finale is fact or fiction, it’s obvious the cast remains close from their time together all those years ago. Creator Kevin Williamson summed the show up perfectly.

“It was a magical experience,” he said. “I felt like it was a family,” actress Meredith Monroe, who played Andie McPhee, agreed.

“I’d love for people to look back on ‘Dawson’s Creek’ and go, ‘Boy, did I love watching that show,'” Williamson added. Boy, did his wish come true.

The show remains a paradigm for all future series of its kind. And for true fans, nothing will ever quite reach the high expectations “Dawson’s Creek” has left in its wake.
