Grandma Watching Graduation on Computer in Tears When Door Opens to Hospital Room
The bond between grandmother and granddaughter is something special. Grandparents aren’t around forever, and those short years we share with them ought to be cherished.
Thankfully, we live in a day and age when technology allows us to whip out our smartphones in a heartbeat. With a few swipes, we can capture memories that will last for years to come.
Such is the case for 70-year-old Sharon Thompson and her granddaughter Taylor.
Though Sharon couldn’t attend Taylor’s high school graduation in 2014 due to recent surgeries, that by no means meant she would miss out on her grandbaby’s special day.
Sharon watched the live Cody, Wyoming, ceremony on a laptop from Houston Methodist Hospital in Texas. Still weak from a bone marrow transplant and brain surgery, the sweet grandmother looked on with joy.
No doubt she was wishing she could be there to cheer Taylor on. But she had no idea she was about to receive a surprise that would make her recovery time much less heartbreaking.
Don’t you just want to hug this lady when she smiles up at the camera?
When the announcer explains to viewers that Taylor was not in fact with them, but was about to walk into her grandmother’s hospital room upon hearing her name, my heart was full — and I’m sure Sharon’s was too.
“Oh, I’m so happy to see you!” Taylor exclaimed. Her grandmother replied with tears of joy and said, “I can’t believe it.”
What strikes me most though is the unselfishness Taylor exuded. Most high school seniors might want to walk down the aisle, clad in cap and gown, with their friends and fellow seniors.
But not this granddaughter. She obviously realized the importance of family, as well as how much this moment would mean to her grandmother.
I can only pray I have such an impact on my children’s children some day. I love the relationship these two share, and I’m so grateful they shared their moment with the world.
Cherish every moment. Don’t let another pass you by without telling those most important to you that you love them.
