Cop Pulls Over Mother Then Sees Son's Pants. Knows He Can't Write Them Ticket

Share

It’s not too often a routine traffic stop turns into a blessing or even a miracle.

But for the Perez family of Hillsborough County, Florida, that’s exactly what an almost-speeding-ticket became. In October 2017, when Brittani Perez saw the flashing lights in her rearview mirror, she thought, “…awesome. I just got pulled over and there’s probably a $200 ticket at least.”

Many of us have been there. We’re already struggling with bills or extra expenses, and on top of it all, we have to pay for a traffic ticket.

Thankfully for struggling Brittani and her family, it was an understanding deputy who pulled her over that day. Deputy Donnie Rizer of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department immediately recognized a family in need.

Instead of writing Brittani up, he decided to show her grace. In addition, he and Deputy John Hajj went above and beyond for the Perez family, going as far taking Brittani and her kids on a shopping trip to Target.

Bernardo Perez, 11, was being bullied at school because his mom couldn’t afford new clothes.

Brittani had recently had surgery, and she and her family had been evicted only one week prior.

“My situation is pretty bad,” she said in an interview. “But it is getting better.”

Rizer could have written the ticket and gone about his day. He certainly must have been busy, and he had no obligation to help complete strangers.

But random acts of kindness are not lost. For Rizer, Hajj, and the Perez family, this single act showed there are still those willing to go above and beyond for others.

“It’s been bred in us since we were hired at the sheriff’s office, community first, community first,” Rizer commented. “I just wanted to look past that traffic stop for this family and I think it worked out pretty well for them.”

We don’t know how this family is doing today, but we do know this incident motivated others to offer their help and support through posts on social media.
