How A 15-Year-Old Girl From Canada Scored An Invite to the Royal Wedding
Most girls dream of having a fairy tale wedding. We imagine Prince Charming, a royal ball and maybe even a glass slipper or two.
The next best thing to our own fairy tale, though, would be to witness someone else’s firsthand.
I’ve attended a few happily ever after events myself, but none as regal as that of a royal wedding. I can only imagine what it would be like to receive an invite to such an affair.
But for 15-year-old Faith Dickinson of Ontario, this dream has become reality.
Some of the world’s biggest V.I.P.s haven’t been invited to the big day. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seem to have a different sort of guest list in mind for their May 19 nuptials, and it says a lot about their character.
That list includes a group of “seven… incredible young people,” according to a recent Tweet from The Diana Award Twitter account. The Diana Award was established in 1999 as a way to carry on the princess’s legacy and recognize young people for their charitable ventures.
Dickinson received The Diana Award in 2017 for a charity she started when she was only 9. Cuddles for Cancer distributes fleece blankets to cancer patients and soldiers dealing with PTSD all over the world.
The day of the award ceremony, Dickinson had the chance of a lifetime to meet both Prince Harry and his brother Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge. Little did she know what an impression she would make that day.
“Prince Harry told me that I was the most impressive redhead there,” Dickinson said in an interview. For all the distasteful jokes made about gingers, it appears having this trait in common caught Prince Harry’s attention.
Of course, the reason for Dickinson’s invite goes far beyond a similarity in hair color. It’s obvious the prince was impressed by her work, and I’m sure his mother would have been proud to see Dickinson included on the guest list.
“I was in complete shock!” Dickinson commented. “It was the most exciting phone call that I’ve ever received!”
Her grandmother will tag along on the international excursion as Dickinson’s chaperone. However, the invite only applies to one, and this teen with a heart for charity will be attending the wedding alone.
Her parents will join the trip as well. But while they’re eating fish and chips and watching the event on television, Dickinson will be rubbing shoulders with some of the most prestigious people from all over the globe.
“I have to wear a dress and a hat,” Dickinson said. “A British hat.”
I’m sure she’ll look exquisite.
Way to go, Prince Harry — you’ve made one girl’s dream into a fairy tale come true.
