Samaritan Catches Woman on Video Dumping 3 Dogs on Dead-End Street

Share

It’s difficult to understand why some people do the things they do. Making poor choices when there is something better available seems to be a case of pure laziness.

We can’t always determine the reasons behind seemingly careless acts. After all, we don’t always know the entire story, and, therefore, we can’t really judge another just because it seems as if they don’t care.

But cameras don’t lie. One woman caught a recent incident involving carelessness on video, and the footage is going viral.

Edith Melendez of San Antonio had witnessed such an act time and time again — dog owners driving down a dead-end road and abandoning the animals they either couldn’t, or didn’t want to, care for.

“A lot of people dump dogs there,” she said in an interview. Melendez volunteers for her local Animal Care Services. When she saw yet another person leaving dogs at the end of the road, she couldn’t keep silent any longer.

Watch as she confronts the abandoners, and even gives them information regarding where they can drop the dogs off. The anonymous woman in the video seems to listen to Melendez for a moment, but the moment doesn’t last.

We can’t know for certain why the driver and passenger decided dumping the dogs instead of taking them to a place they would be cared for seemed like the better option.

But this video has received quite a bit of attention, and since going live the dog dumpers have been located.

Lisa Norwood, an Animal Care Services Representative, explained the dumpers were not in fact the owners but had been asked by the owner to get rid of the dogs. It is only thanks to Melendez, the dog Samaritan, that these animals were taken in before they ended up starving or worse.

Unfortunately, these types of abandonments are becoming more commonplace. But rather than making a little extra effort to find these animals a good home, their owners are simply leaving them on the streets.

“If you see something, say something,” a Facebook post from City of Antonio Animal Care Services pleads. “We would not have been able to respond as quickly as we did if the Good Samaritan had not contacted 311 first.”

It’s understandable if uncontrollable circumstances keep someone from caring for their pets. What is unacceptable, however, is when people would rather drop their animals on the side of the road instead of taking them to the proper care facilities.
