This country lost an iconic first lady when Barbara Bush died on April 17 at 92 years old.

Lauren Bush treasured her not only as a former first lady but also as her grandma. The relationship between a grandmother and granddaughter is special in many ways.

Lauren shared this special connection with Barbara Bush growing up. She wrote an Instagram post in honor of her grandma on April 18 where she described Bush as an “amazing woman.”

“My love of reading, puzzles, and travel are just a few things she helped foster in me. She loved my Gampy and her family fiercely, and I feel so blessed to have had her as my grandmother for over 30 years,” Lauren wrote.

Just two days after Barbara’s death, Lauren and the rest of the Bush family welcomed a new member of the family.

Lauren and her husband, David, welcomed their second baby to the world on April 19 at 5:33 a.m. Max Walker Lauren was born weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces.

Though the timing of Barbara Bush’s death and then Max’s birth might not directly suggest this, one cannot help but feel that there is a meaningful connection in the timing of these major life events in the family.

Neil Bush seemed to think so.

“Maria and I will always be grateful for being able to say a proper goodbye to our wonderful mother. And then two days later, yesterday morning, two weeks before her due date, Lauren Bush Lauren gave birth to a beautiful 7 lb 8 oz baby boy Max Walker Lauren,” he wrote on Facebook.

Neil Bush concluded, “The circle of life. God is good.”

Barbara Bush knew her days were numbered when she decided to stop medical treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure. She passed away while she was surrounded by the loving presence of her family.

The family has welcomed Max Walker Lauren days after his great-grandmother died. His life has only begun, and though Barbara Bush has died, the influence she has had on her family will impact this tiniest Bush baby too.
