Soldier Sneaks Home To Surprise Mom, Mom Thanks God Through Tears

Share

Reunion season is upon us.

Summer seems to be the time when families get together over a campfire and loads of potato salad and fried chicken, reminiscing about years past.

In this day and age, we’re fortunate to have smartphones readily at hand. We can capture moments with a few swipes of a finger.

Some of life’s sweetest moments occur between a parent and a child.

Even if that child has long since reached adulthood, there’s nothing quite like a parents’ love.

Love doesn’t suddenly change or lessen when your little one is all grown up, either. If anything, love only grows stronger with each year that passes.

One soldier knows how much he means to his sweet mama. While away in Afghanistan for nine long months, he made plans to surprise his mother when she’d least expect it.

In April, Private Kenny Joel Garcia flew home to Queens. Once there, he and his girlfriend, Hannah Long, cooked up the surprise of a lifetime.

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, it was the perfect time to present a priceless gift. The plan was set into motion, and the outcome will bring you to tears.

Watch as Garcia sneaks down the hall and raps on his mom’s door.

When she emerges, she clearly has no idea what waits just behind her:

“My boy!” she squeals in Spanish. “Thank you, Lord!’

Her reaction is one I could watch over and over again. Her joy is infectious.

The woman praises God, thanking him for his grace as she holds her grown son. No doubt they shared many more embraces long after the camera stopped rolling.

Long had told Garcia’s mother she was just dropping by to borrow a camera. Whether it was with her own camera or one borrowed, she surely captured a moment none of them will soon forget.
