Pepperoni Pizza-Stealing Dog Leads Rescuers To Find 1-Week-Old Litter of Puppies
What began as a simple lunch get-together among working friends in East Palo Alto, California, quickly turned into a rescue mission.
Some might not think much of a stray dog stealing a slice of pepperoni pizza, but one person’s investigation ended up saving the lives of some adorable furry friends.
In April of this year, a litter of Terrier puppies was discovered in a field at the end of Bay Road. Homeless and hungry, these pups weren’t going to last long.
But their mother couldn’t let them starve. And it was her food-scavenging skills that led to her and her babies finding their way into helpful care.
The worker whose pizza had been stolen called the Peninsula Humane Society to report the stray.
“When our rescue staff arrived on scene, the hungry little dog led us to her small nest of six tiny one week old puppies,” Buffy Tarbox, the Communications Manager for PHS, said. “The nursing mother and her puppies were taken and placed at a foster home.”
It’s taken some time and some tender-loving care, but the mother and her pups have since been nursed back to full health. And you’ll never guess what their foster parent has named them.
A follower and fan of the royal family, the caregiver bestowed each dog a name fit for a queen. The pups have been lovingly called William, Harry, Duchess Kate, Lady Di, Charlotte, and Meghan.
But the mother and pizza thief takes the pepperoni with her title. Queen Elizabeth certainly deserves a bow and a few curtsies for all she went through to care for her babies.
The now-healthy and cared-for animals have officially been made available for adoption. One puppy has already been claimed, but these and many other animals are still in search of loving homes.
So many animals simply need someone to love them. It’s sad to see strays like these, but heartwarming to know they’re going to be placed in good homes.
“If we hadn’t found them they probably would not have survived,” Tarbox commented.
Thankfully, because one person went the extra mile to investigate, the dogs have survived and will hopefully thrive in the loving arms of their new owners.
