Curious Woman Takes DNA Test, Learns Man Who Raised Her Isn't Real Father
Many Americans are raised within blended families. Many can claim at least one step-parent, and some of us were even brought up by grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even older siblings.
Discovering one’s lost heritage is a special gift indeed. But, perhaps even better, is when we hear a story of someone who was not only able to trace her ancestry, but also meet those family members face to face.
Such is the story of Tiffany Dow from Missouri. When her boyfriend gifted her a DNA kit for Christmas, Dow didn’t know what might come of it.
Not only did the test reveal that Dow is not the daughter of a blond-haired and blue-eyed man her mom knew in high school, but it provided even more information about where she really came from. “I was shocked,” she recalled.
“When I read it, it was 40% Armenian,” Dow shared. “So I instantly called my mom…”
Dow learned at the age of 11 that the man she believed to be her father was actually her stepfather. When she called her mom after taking the DNA test, she also learned her biological dad didn’t die in a car crash, like her mom had claimed.
So, Dow went to work. With social media and Google at her fingertips, the 45-year-old woman went in search of her true father.
Doug Davidian ended up being the match she was looking for. He was alive and well, and living in Fresno, California.
The two connected and immediately began building a relationship. Davidian was more than open to getting to know his long-lost daughter.
“I prayed if there’s something or someone who needs friendship or attention, I don’t just walk by it, I show up,” Davidian said. “…One hour exactly after I prayed that prayer, Tiffany was on the other line.”
Both Dow and Davidian start their day with a Bible devotional. Just one example of the many things the pair has discovered they have in common.
Since their initial phone call, the father and daughter have gotten to know each other. And Dow even flew out to Fresno for a special Father’s Day visit.
“It’s like a miracle. I kept saying that inside, ‘I have a dad. It’s a miracle.'” Dow shared.
It was certainly a Happy Father’s Day reunion. Hopefully this newfound family will have many more holidays to look forward to together–their discovery can give others in search of family faith that it truly is possible to find something once lost.
