How Outspoken Christian Chris Pratt Went from Homeless Waiter to Highest Paid Actor

Share

Everyone’s favorite comedy-slash-action star didn’t have the privileged beginning some might believe. Chris Pratt may be called the next “Harrison Ford” by a few of his fans (a.k.a. this fan), but the “Jurassic World” star didn’t always live the lifestyle of the rich and famous.

When the Parks and Recreation oddball started landing major motion picture roles, there may have been more than a handful of people who scratched their heads. Certainly the lovable idiot everyone recognized as Andy Dwyer couldn’t pull off a lead role for a multi-million dollar franchise.

Wrong. Pratt not only delivered onscreen, but has recently added the MTV 2018 Generation Award to his name.

The award-winning Christian actor recently gave a speech at the MTV Movie & TV Awards that included some very important advice for the next generation. “God is real. God loves you! God wants the best for you, believe that — I do.”

Is it possible his past struggles led to Pratt’s professed faith? It’s quite probable, as the actor was once homeless and working at Maui’s Bubba Gump Shrimp Company just to make ends meet.

Many across the country have chosen the minimalist #vanlife, and Pratt’s experience is one he speaks fondly of. “We… worked minimal hours… just enough to cover gas, food and fishing supplies,” he recalled in an interview. “You know, it was a charming time.”

Still, the then-beach-bum had higher hopes than working at a restaurant in Maui for the rest of his life. Though his first role in a horror flick didn’t even make it to the silver screen, Pratt didn’t give up on his dream of being in the movies.

He did what any Hollywood-dreamer would do. Pratt moved to L.A., yet the cross-country relocation did anything but end his struggle.

He still worked at a restaurant. He still hadn’t found his “big break.”

In fact, Pratt couldn’t even afford a meal during some of his lowest points. “I’d been busted so many times eating off people’s plates,” the star said.

Now his most recent return to the theaters as Owen Grady in “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” has landed him a whopping $10 million paycheck. I’d say that’s a nice step up from his days of waiting tables.

Even so, the raptor-taming believer hasn’t forgotten what’s truly important in life. He encouraged those listening to his Generation Award speech to “learn to pray” and “reach out to someone in pain.”

Fans can certainly expect good things to keep coming from this man. He even started off his speech by thanking his family and saying how much he loves them, despite their humble roots.

His son, Jack, has a lot to look up to in his father. No doubt Pratt will continue to strive to set a good and humble example for his son, as well as for the generations to come.
