Mom and Daughter Know They Need To Make a Change, Lose 184 Pounds with Help of Jazzercise

Share

Most of us can relate to that dreadful feeling. You look in the mirror, jeans tighter than before, and think to yourself, “I need to make a change.”

But time and time again, we stand in front of that same mirror and say the same phrase over and over, never acting, always dreaming.

Why? Because, frankly, the only thing we use our yoga pants for is grocery shopping and cleaning the house. Whoops.

The thought of trekking to the gym, forcing yourself to run until you’re light headed and constantly allowing your wandering eyes to look around at all the others who have been ‘gym-rats’ far longer than you care to guess, is almost more than you can bear to imagine.

So, we push it to the back of our minds and put it off another week.

However, many others can relate to another familiar moment. The moment it happens.

When you finally discover your personal fitness magic trick and all your problems seem to melt away.

From the Keto diet to Zumba, new and improved ways to help create a healthier you are invented every day — and they work.

That’s what happened for the mother-daughter team Jamie Allison and Calista Jean Jones when they stumbled upon a Jazzercise class in their hometown of Trussville, Alabama, in January of 2016.

“From that point on we were hooked,” Allison told Health. “Who doesn’t love to dance? For one hour, a stress-free, heart-pounding, fun, fat-burning dance mix that give [sic] you amazing health benefits and even muscles!”

Allison has been documenting their fitness journey ever since, and they’ve gained quite the social media following!

Since they started two years ago, the girls have lost a combined 184 pounds!

So, what is Jazzercise?

Jazzercise dates all the way back to the 70s. When you think of the term, you brain may conjure up painful images of frizzy haired dancers dancing around in thick leg warmers and nylon body suits. And, if that is what comes to mind, you’re not wrong.

However, Jazzercise has had a serious face lift these past few years and the comeback is unreal.

With new music, new dance moves and more becoming outfits, it’s the perfect way to lose weight and have fun while you’re doing it.

Similar to Zumba, Jazzercise is a mix of cardio and strength training. Some dance studios even claim clients burn up to 800 calories each session.

On top of Jazzercise, Allison also follows Weight Watchers. But despite their incredible weight loss, Allison says that isn’t what this experience has been about. It’s about bonding with her daughter.

“We are a team, helping each other, making good food choices and keeping each other on point,” Allison said. “Our bond is something special that I would never trade. I always wanted her to look up to me [and] now I feel like we both inspire each other.”

Keep up the great work, ladies!
