Kate Will Receive New Title Inherited from Princess Diana After Charles Becomes King
It is an inevitable part of the royal life — moving up in the line of succession when someone passes on.
When the late Diana married Prince Charles, she became Diana, Princess of Wales.
While she’s commonly referred to as “Princess Di,” it turns out this particular ordering of title before name isn’t quite correct.
As Diana married into, and wasn’t born into, the royal bloodline, the title should always follow her name, and not the other way around.
Likewise, “Duchess Kate” isn’t quite official. For those wishing to properly refer to Prince William’s wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge would be more accurate.
Confused yet? If so, then brace yourself, because the Duchess of Cambridge has a new title coming in her future.
Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 92nd birthday this year, making her the oldest reigning queen of the United Kingdom to date.
But no one can live forever, and eventually Prince Charles will, more than likely, succeed the throne. So, where does that leave Prince William and his duchess?
William will become the Prince of Wales, like his father before him. As for our beloved Kate Middleton, it is speculated that she will take on the title that formerly belonged to Diana.
Prince Charles’ current wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, chose not to use the Princess of Wales title, most likely due to its connection to Diana.
While “Duchess Kate” may choose not to switch from her current title, many believe she will make the change. The royal couple has shown a history of honoring William’s mother in the past.
From living in Diana’s former residence in Kensington Palace, to naming their daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge haven’t shied away from paying tribute to William’s mum.
Whatever the duchess decides, we’re sure she’ll remain as graceful and poised as ever.
No doubt Diana would have loved her daughter-in-law, and would be honored to pass her Princess of Wales title down to such a lovely woman.
