Grandma Doesn't Think She's Pretty So Granddaughter Surprises Her with Makeover
It’s one thing to be pretty, but it’s another thing entirely to feel pretty. Even the most physically attractive people deal with self-image issues.
Life takes its toll. From the loss of a loved one to financial struggles, our daily realities can often take us away from self-care, both the emotional kind and the physical kind.
A granddaughter began to see how much life was taking its toll on her Minnesota grandmother. Mary Johnsen had dealt with the deaths of family and church friends within the span of one year.
“We have a good friend right now who’s in hospice,” she shared in a Rumble video. “…It’s been all these changes, and I want a good change.”
And a good change was just what her granddaughter had in mind when she took Johnsen to see Christopher Hopkins, better known as “The Makeover Guy,” in Minneapolis.
“She doesn’t really think that she’s pretty and she is,” Johnsen’s granddaughter says in the video. “And I just want her to be able to see that in herself.”
Hopkins immediately went to work on the clearly self-conscious 62-year-old. Always a confidence booster, “The Makeover Guy,” even called her “the” Mary Johnsen, treating her like a celebrity in his studio.
The two hugged and Johnsen shared, while she wanted a change, she didn’t really want the asymmetrical look.
Hopkins listened, and boy, did he deliver. When Johnsen’s granddaughter sees her grandma for the first time, the reaction is priceless.
“You look so pretty,” her granddaughter says, wrapping Johnsen in a big hug. But the issue was never whether or not Johnsen was or wasn’t pretty.
This was more about the inside. About attitude. Johnsen had faced so much, and feeling pretty was the key to boosting her downcast spirit.
She even wrote to Hopkins, thanking him for the transformation. But it’s clear the biggest difference isn’t the grandmother’s hairstyle.
Her smile lights up the room. What a difference a feeling can make. “Feeling pretty in the morning, right after I wake up, no makeup. THAT is a miracle!!!” she shared in her heartfelt note.
Another win for “The Makeover Guy.” And a big shout-out to Johnsen’s granddaughter — what a way to show your love and appreciation for this very special woman.
