Mother Fighting Breast Cancer in Tears When Daughter in Navy Surprises Her at Lunch

Share

Family reunions are the best. Getting together with our loved ones after so much time apart can definitely be a much-needed quencher for the soul.

Some of the most joyful reunions occur when a veteran returns home for a special visit. And those reunions are, many a time, caught on camera.

I won’t deny I’ve shed more than a few tears over moments between a veteran and their loved ones at home.

A parent reuniting with their children. Or siblings seeing each other for the first time in ages. These scenes warm my heart.

A recent video showed just how wonderful a reunion between a parent and their child can be. Especially when that parent was recently diagnosed with an illness.

The Navy veteran hadn’t seen her family since December 2017. In just the few short months following her holiday visit, the woman’s mother learned she had stage two breast cancer.

Unable to make it home for her mother’s partial mastectomy, chemo, and radiation was no doubt hard for the daughter.

But, with the help of her sister back home, the military girl was able to make plans for a very special surprise.

“My sister and I had decided about March that we were going to surprise my mother with her coming home,” the video caption reads.

“So we had to tell my mother that she couldn’t fly to see my sister because she was working so much and didn’t have any leave time.”

The mother, who had already been through so much, was probably disappointed to hear she couldn’t see her daughter.

But, as mothers tend to do, she most likely understood her daughter’s reasons. So when she received her big surprise, it makes sense why her reaction was so emotional.

“I’m scared,” the returned vet admits at the beginning of the video. Her nervous excitement is infectious. Watch as she prepares to give her mama the surprise of a lifetime.

Their hugs and happy tears are worth more than a thousand words. “I told you I’d meet you,” the daughter says during their long embrace.

Another happy ending to a wonderful surprise. Our hearts go out to this family. What a blessing it must be to experience some joy during this time of difficulty and uncertainty.
