Day Foster Mom Turns Into Just 'Mom' Is Happiest Day of Their Lives
Family is family, no matter who you are or where you’re from. Family is not defined by race or biology. Family is, simply put, those who love and care for you.
Unfortunately, many children across the United States and around the world grow up without a place to call home.
Because so many kids spend their childhood years without stability, they grow up to be homeless, addicted to drugs, or worse.
Thankfully, there are still a number of loving, selfless people who dedicate their lives to helping these children feel loved and care for.
One such woman lives in Florida. Frances Martin is a foster mom. But her big heart has led her to be so much more to some of the children she’s cared for.
Christopher and Chastity are just two of those children. Ages 10 and 13, the brother and sister have seen their fair share of foster homes.
And not all of them were worth being called “home” at all. The siblings have experienced abuse at the hands of some of their foster parents.
No child should have to suffer the pain Christopher and Chastity have endured. It was thanks to Martin that these children held out hope they could have a real “mom” of their own.
Though Martin already has three children she’s adopted out of foster care, that didn’t stop her from opening up her arms, and her home.
“After their last return they had been traumatized so much,” Martin explained. “I was like, ‘That’s it. They’re gonna be mine now.'”
Martin now has five children who call her “mom,” and all from similar, painful pasts. Though her newest children are both white, the difference in skin color doesn’t bother them.
“They’re going to get used to it,” Chastity said. “I’m a white child with a black mama.” Powerful words from a young woman, reminding us that true family only sees one color — the color of love.
“I believe this was my purpose in life from God …” Martin wrote in a 2015 Facebook post. “… I am working (for) God. (No one) else.”
We need more “mamas” like Martin in the world. It’s comforting to know Christopher and Chastity are now safe, in the loving arms of their real-life mom.
