George & Amal Clooney Quickly Becoming Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's Closest Friends

Share

Some friendships seem as though the people in them were crafted for one another, as though they were perfectly matched pairs. And then sometimes individuals forms bonds who seem to … have a little less in common.

Of course, you’d expect some incongruity in certain cases. Consider England’s royal family.

It has a “long and bloody history,” as the U.K. Express put it, but the institution of the English monarchy has been around for almost 1,000 years, since William the Conqueror invaded Britain from Normandy. That kind of background can make it difficult for people in that oh-so-regal circle to find close chums.

Yet it happens, and it seems to have happened for Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Their new BFFs? George and Amal Clooney.

According to People, Amal and Meghan got introduced by a mutual acquaintance. Yet their friendship quickly grew stronger when Meghan moved to the United Kingdom.

“Amal has been helping Meghan settle into London life,” a source told the magazine in May. “It was a very natural friendship from day one.”

Apparently so. In the spring, Elle nodded at rumors that George and Amal got invited to the royal wedding out of an admiration for the actor’s Casamigos-brand tequila, but the real reason seems to have been that growing bond.

The Hollywood star and British barrister didn’t just slink into the ceremony either. They stole the show.

Do you think these couples will stay close?

George wore a restrained gray suit with a champagne-colored tie, while Amal stunned in a daffodil-yellow gown with a matching fascinator. Those clothes might’ve caught the crowd’s attention, but the pair had already seized the hearts of the royal couple.

On Monday, Us Weekly reported that Harry and Meghan spent the weekend at the Clooneys’ home in Lake Como, Italy. “The Clooneys had personally invited Meghan and Harry to their home at the beginning of the summer with an open invitation,” a source said.

“They spent the entire weekend at their home and enjoyed the privacy and security the Clooneys had for them there.” The source added that the getaway was a nice break since Harry and Meghan had been “spending most of their summer in their Oxfordshire home.”

The Daily Express added that the newlyweds also babysat the 10-month-old Clooney twins. They also indulged in a little sport together, trying their hand at basketball.

On Saturday, according to the Express, George hosted an intimate dinner with the royals and 15 of his friends. This is far from the only time that the Clooneys have spent with Meghan and Harry.

They attended the royal couple’s exclusive wedding reception. During it, George danced with Meghan.

Despite the glitz and glamor, I don’t think anyone would say that royal life is easy. Gossip columns have certainly had a field day with the Duchess of Sussex.

So it’s good that she and Harry have George and Amal as confidants. Not many couples understand the pressures of fame like the Clooneys.
