Hero Siblings Rush To Save Couple & 11-Day-Old Baby After SUV Flips into Watery Ditch

Share

A pair of siblings from Florida are being hailed as heroes for saving a family after their SUV flipped into a watery ditch, leaving them trapped.

Aaron Allen and his sister, Jolisa Jones, were driving an Ashley Furniture work truck when they witnessed the frightening rollover.

Allen said that out of nowhere, a white Chrysler veered into the lane where the SUV was traveling on an interstate north of Tampa. The white vehicle struck the side of the SUV, sending it hurling over the road and down into a ditch.

The driver of the Chrysler fled the scene, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The siblings were shocked, and immediately felt compelled to stop and help.

“The car pretty much just blindsided them, and I’m pretty sure they were just as scared, and I was shocked,” Allen said. “The first thing I could do was to spring into action.”

When Allen and Jones reached the SUV, they found a family of three trapped inside.

“There was actually a mother, a father, and an 11-day-old baby inside,” Allen recalled. “I just immediately thought about my daughter and what I would do if I were in that situation.”

Parents Thomas and Diana Windsor had been driving home from a doctor’s appointment, and now found themselves upside down, still strapped into their seats.

“I looked through the windshield the dad was curled up around the baby. Protecting the baby,” said Allen.

The Windsor’s recalled the water, seeping into their vehicle, and then felt the SUV shift. Diana Windsor realized someone was trying to turn their SUV — a feat she thought would be impossible.

But amazingly, Allen and Jones found the strength to flip the SUV onto its side. From there, Allen wrapped his fist in his T-shirt and managed to break through the windshield.

Soon, the siblings were handed a tiny bundle, 11-day-old Azara. Next, the parents managed to crawl out, calling Allen and Jones “angels.”

“Yeah, angels,” Thomas Winsor said. “Guardians. Heaven sent.”

Both siblings suffered injuries during the rescue. Allen suffered a nasty gash to his arm and needed stitches, and his sister had injuries to her fingers.

But the siblings believe their scars are worth it. Thanks to their efforts, a young family has been preserved.

The Florida Highway Patrol is still searching for the vehicle that caused the incident, believed to be a white Chrysler 300. The FHP is asking that anybody with information come forward.
