These 60+ Stores Have Put Their Foot Down & Will Be Closed on Thanksgiving Day
For years, Black Friday has started earlier and earlier. Shoppers have been known to line up and even camp out, waiting for stores — and killer deals — to open on Thanksgiving.
Forget the cider and skip the pie. Why not get a new TV for half the price? Who needs family when you can save hundreds of dollars on an iPad?
This has seemingly been the mentality of many shoppers over the years. On any normal day, they’d hold the door open for that elderly guy or gal, but Black Friday brings about a very “me first” way of thinking.
Pushing and shoving and trying to get to the front of the mob has been known to initiate violence and has even caused injuries.
One could argue the deals aren’t worth the risk and it’s safer to stay at home and wait for those Cyber Monday discounts.
More than 60 retailers are putting their foot down and closing their doors on Thanksgiving Day this holiday season.
BestBlackFriday.com, a resource site for shoppers who like to find the best deals and plan ahead, released its list of stores closed on Thanksgiving in 2018.
The list includes major chains such as Barnes & Noble, Costco, Ikea, Nordstrom, PetSmart and many more.
“BestBlackFriday.com personally confirmed the closed status with a representative or PR contact from each of these retailers,” the site reads. “The list will be updated daily as more stores make their decision.”
The site has more information as to what stores they expect to remain open, and offers general information on why many stores prefer to remain closed on Turkey Day.
“Every store has its own personal reason for the decision, but we have noticed a common theme over the years — family time,” the site explains. “Retailers understand that Thanksgiving is one of the top family-oriented holidays, and people just do not want to work.”
In 2017, Forbes reported that store traffic was down and shoppers appeared to do more of their purchasing online.
Even if you’re paying a little more to avoid the crowds, what will be the bigger regret in 10 or 20 years? Will you kick yourself for not hitting the stores that opened their doors on Thanksgiving eve?
Or will you wish you’d spent more time with loved ones? The choice is yours. As for me, I’ll be enjoying some pumpkin pie and watching “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.” The deals can wait an extra day.
