Mom Breaks Down When She Realizes Military Son Is Home for Holidays

Share

Home for the holidays — it’s a phrase we often use this time of year. Songs like Bing Crosby’s “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” play softly over the radio, while Hallmark movies portray happy families together for the holidays.

Sadly, not everyone can be together this time of year. Those deployed with the U.S. military may not even see a Christmas tree at all.

Programs like Stockings for Soldiers and Operation Care Packages help bring home and the holidays to the brave men and women overseas.

Still, any soldier would probably tell you that if they could, they’d be home with their loved ones during this special time of year.

One soldier was thankfully able to surprise his sweet mom just in time for the 2017 holiday season. Austin Pearson had been stationed with the U.S. Army in South Korea for several months, according to NewsFlare.

He applied for leave but was originally denied, making 2017 the first year that Pearson would not be with his family for Christmas.

But an early Christmas gift was in store for Pearson and his family back home. After reapplying for leave, the soldier’s wish was granted.

His reunion with his mom, Teresa Pearson, was captured on video. Clips were shared on social media, showcasing the surprise.

What began as a FaceTime chat on October 1, 2017, ended with hugs and tears of joy. Newsflare reported that Teresa had just ended the video call with her son before he gave her the biggest present ever.

Watch as Teresa sits, unaware of who is behind her. The joy on her face will make you want to hug your nearest loved one.

This moment is priceless. At first she thinks he’s the server delivering her food. When she realizes who’s really there, her shock is worth everything.

As a mama myself, this video made me tear up and reminded me of what is truly most important during this season.

Let’s all remember to take a moment to slow down during the holidays. To really soak in the time we spend with those we love.

We wish Austin and his family a happy holiday season in 2018. Even if they can’t be together again this year, we know this son is always in his mother’s heart.
