Pastor Takes Stage at Church Holding Bullet That Almost Went Through His Head
A New Year’s Eve celebration for a church congregation in Fort Worth, Texas, turned into a frightening scenario for one pastor and his drummer.
It was nearing 2019. The Ramp Church was gearing up to ring in the new year, praise and worship style. All was well.
No one expected a bullet to come flying through the roof. “I was speechless,” Pastor Evan Risher told NBC 5. “I was scared.”

“I was actually one step away from walking into the space where the bullet actually landed,” the pastor wrote on Instagram. “Thank you Jesus! In tears man… that’s crazy!”
“The devil lost again. Lord, thank you for allowing me to see another year.”
The bullet wasn’t thought to have been intended for the pastor, but was most likely a stray that had been fired during a separate celebration.
A celebration that certainly could have been deadly. According to FOX 4, police are still reportedly investigating where exactly the careless shot came from.
“Had it been one tile up and one tile back, I don’t think we would have been bringing in the New Year,” Pastor Risher shared with FOX 4. “Only by God’s grace, it split the drummer and I.”
According to reports, Risher was rushed off stage following the incident. Armed, off-duty officers help the church by providing security.
Unfortunately, there’s no way for a security officer to protect anyone from something like this. As Risher said, it was “by God’s grace” that he and the drummer — or anyone else — were not injured or killed.
After all the commotion, Risher stood on stage once more, holding the bullet that missed him in his bare hands.
Around 300 people looked on as the shaken pastor preached. When asked why he was holding the bullet, he said it was “to let the devil know that he missed again!”
The congregation celebrated with Risher, thankful the new year didn’t begin with a trip to the hospital, or worse.
“I believe wholeheartedly that God called us to this area of Fort Worth,” he told NBC 5. “And whenever I’m ever having a day where I’m feeling ungrateful, I’m going to remember the value of life.”
A close call to be sure, but clearly God’s hand was in this one. We’re thankful everyone is safe and hope whoever shot the bullet will think again before firing shots as a way of celebration.
