Nursing Technician Sings 'Amazing Grace' to Patient in Emotional Video
Being stuck in the hospital can often be a stressful experience, but one Tennessee nurse technician went above and beyond to make one grandmother feel a little bit better while she was there.
Grandmother Patsy Tate was admitted to St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, for abnormal heart rhythms and confusion.
Her nurse tech, Mikea Braden, was taking care of Tate and humming a little tune to herself.
Tate’s granddaughter, Olivia Kilburn, 21, told Liftable, a brand of The Western Journal, that her grandfather then said to Braden, “I bet you know Amazing Grace.”
To the family’s delight, Braden responded with a resounding “Yeah! I’m gonna sing it for y’all!”
This was the first time that the nurse tech sang for Tate and the moment was pure magic.
As Christians from Lawrenceburg, Tennessee — the birthplace of southern gospel music — the family absolutely loved Braden’s rendition of the song.
Kilburn captured the heartfelt moment in a video.

She later posted it to Facebook for others to share in the sheer joy they felt listening to Braden sing her heart out.
‘My granny is sick at St. Thomas hospital in Nashville and she has been blessed with the BEST nurse tech!!’ she wrote in her post.
“The response from social has been unbelievable. I never would have thought that so many people would be touched by this special moment the same way that my family was touched,” Kilburn told Liftable.
“Mikea Is an amazing nurse tech who brings joy into the room when she enters and is compassionate with the patients and families,” she said.
“The support and praise for Mikea has all been well deserved. She’s an amazing person!”
Tate was able to leave the hospital and return to the nursing home where she resides, and we have a feeling she and her family will remember Braden and her graceful voice for years to come.
