Super Mom Only Needed 9 Minutes To Give Birth to 6 Babies
The Bible makes it pretty clear that babies are a good thing. In fact, Psalm 127 compares having lots of kids to being a well-stocked warrior ready for battle.
“Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth,” it says. “Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!”
All the same, most of us would admit that having a bunch of kids can prove exhausting and that nurturing little lives takes a lot out of parents. Of course, the vast majority of moms and dads have never needed to deal with the arrival of a bevy of babies all at once.
The same can’t be said for Courtney and Eric Waldrop of Alabama. According to Today, the couple had three boys.
They decided to try one more time for a girl — and ended up with the surprise of a lifetime.
The Waldrops learned that Courtney was expecting sextuplets and that their household would soon swell from five to 11.
After they were born, Eric said, “If you would have asked me the way I felt when I found out we were having six babies, I guess I just thought it was going to be an impossible situation. I’m not saying it’s not hard, but you just kind of adapt and make it work.”
Bobbi and Kenny McCaughey know exactly how that works. UPI reported that the couple rocketed to fame in 1997 when they discovered they were expecting septuplets, a result of their fertility treatments.
Prior to that point, no one had ever given birth to seven children simultaneously who had gone on to survive. But that’s exactly what those children did.
According to the Des Moines Register, the family received a 5,500 square foot home in 1998 as a gift to help raise their big brood. Once their kids had all turned 20, they sold it to a Christian nonprofit.
“It’s a pretty good size house that met our needs pretty well. We thought we would pass that down to someone else who could use it,” Kenny said.
A Texan woman has found herself facing a challenge almost as big as that of the McCaugheys, and the way she started it shows that she has all the grit necessary to see it to the end.
Fox News reported that Houston resident Thelma Chiaka gave birth to six babies on March 15.
That’s an impressive enough achievement on its own. But the jaw-dropping part of it comes from how quickly Chiaka brought those infants into the world.
She gave birth to all six infants in an amazing span of merely nine minutes. All of her kids remained in stable condition.
That feat appears all the more impressive once you consider its rarity. You only have a one in (wait for it) 4.7 billion chance of delivering six babies.
What’s more, sextuplets only occur once a year at most in the United States. So kudos to Ms. Chiaka, who has already shown herself to be one tough mama.
