Customer Leaves $2,000 Tip on $48.76 Bill at Restaurant with Specific Instructions
The good Samaritans are at it again! This time they’ve left quite the tip at one restaurant in Waterville, Maine.
We’ve heard stories like this one before. In 2018, the #tipthebillchallenge became popular and continues on today.
It’s one thing to leave a tip that equals the amount of your bill. It’s quite another, however, to go above and beyond even that.
The Silver Street Tavern and Restaurant is located in downtown Waterville. With live music on the weekends and family-friendly service, the historic structure has become a staple establishment over the years.
The March evening started out like any other. When a couple came in and ordered wine and entrees, the waitstaff didn’t think much of it.
Zack Denis started the couple off with beverages, then Samantha Clark took over from there. Clark said that she was worried because things weren’t going so smoothly.
“We thought he was going to complain or that we did something wrong,” she told the Morning Sentinel, recalling how the man at the table asked to speak to the manager.
In the end, it turned out a complaint wasn’t in the cards at all. The manager kept the conversation under wraps at first.
It wasn’t until a photo was posted on Facebook by the restaurant that the employees began to talk about the extremely large tip that had been left on the under $50 bill.
“WOW! So awesome, we had to share!” the caption reads. “Thank you to the kind gentleman who came in for dinner tonight and had such a great experience that he left a $2000 tip, to be divided among all the employees who were working the shift. #grateful”
With 14 people working that night, the tip per person ended up being around $140 each.
“Keep up the great work guys,” Zack Denis wrote on Facebook.
“You wouldn’t have guessed they were anything other than average Joes,” He told WCSH.
This just goes to show you can’t judge a patron by their order. We’re glad the team at Silver Street Tavern had the opportunity to experience this generous act of kindness.
