Nonverbal Teen Asks Classmate to Prom Using Puzzle in Heartwarming Video

Share

It’s that time of year again. Spring break has come and gone, summer is on the horizon and … the prom-posals are already going viral.

I adore a good prom-posal as much as the next hopeless romantic. But there are some that stick out in my mind more than others.

Two juniors from Northwest High School in Canal Fulton, Ohio, just so happen to be the cutest prom pair I’ve seen in quite some time.

I won’t be getting this one out of my head anytime soon. If you need a good dose of the warm-and-fuzzies, look no further than Cam and Maddy.

Cam is an intensive needs student who is non-verbal and uses a special tablet to help him speak. When the time came for Cam to pick the perfect date for the school’s prom, he knew exactly who he wanted to ask.

Maddy Barabasch was in her public speaking class when someone handed her blue puzzle pieces with black writing on them.

It only took a few moments for the teen to begin sorting the pieces and see the word “prom” written across the puzzle’s bottom edge in bold letters.

But the puzzle wasn’t complete until Cam walked into the classroom, the missing piece in hand. When Maddy saw him, she said she was going to cry.

Do you have a favorite 'prom-posal' video?

“We started putting it together,” Maddy told Fox 8 Cleveland. “As it went on, you could see it started to spell prom. I had no idea what it was and who was asking me.”

“I burst into tears, as soon as it happened,” she continued. “I was more excited than anything, he was so sweet.”

A tweet complete with video was posted to Twitter by the school’s principal, Larry Tausch. “Some wonder why I love Northwest the way I do,” Principal Tausch wrote. “Today Cam found his date to the prom. Cam is amazing. [Maddy] is pure gold.”

“That was a genuine prom proposal,” he told News 5 Cleveland. “Maddy being Maddy, she responded in a way that we expected her to … What you saw on that video was actually Maddy, that’s genuinely her.”

Maddy noted in her own tweet that Cam always makes her smile and that the prom-posal gave her “happy tears.”

They’re adorable! I hope they have the best time ever at the best prom ever! Their friendship is a true inspiration.
