Bride-To-Be Speaks Out After Saleswoman Calls Engagement Ring 'Pathetic' in Front of Fiancé

Share

You can’t put a price tag on true love, right? It’s a nice sentiment, but oftentimes we see evidence that some might say the opposite.

While we live in a culture where some boast minimalism and the tiny house movement and “less is more,” there are plenty who still believe that more is, well … more.

One bride-to-be from Tennessee wanted nothing more than to marry the love of her life — her best friend. At the time, Ariel Desiree and her fiancé Quinn McRae couldn’t afford a lot of bling.

Still, they wanted to be together. The pair wasn’t going to let the lack of gold and diamonds stop them from becoming husband and wife.

Sadly, not everyone agreed with their decision. When Ariel and Quinn went out to purchase a sterling silver and cubic zirconia set they could afford, a saleswoman made a rude comment, making Quinn feel like he’d failed his bride.

Take 1 or Take 2, I’ll take you anyway I can get you ?

Ariel shared her story on Facebook in 2016 and soon it went viral. “My husband doesn’t have a lot, neither of us do,” she began.

Do you believe love doesn't come from a store?

“I wasn’t even thinking about rings,” she went on. “I just wanted to marry my best friend, but he wouldn’t have it. He scraped up just enough money to buy me two matching rings from Pandora.”

The comment the unkind woman made while the happy couple was making their purchase is appalling and heartbreaking.

“She said, ‘Y’all can you believe that some men get these as engagement rings? How pathetic,'” Ariel recounted. “When she said that I watched my now husband’s face fall.”

My face is falling too, and maybe yours is as well. Because love isn’t about a fancy ring or a house or a car. It’s kind of like when the Grinch tried to steal Christmas, in a way.

We might even ask ourselves, “What if [love] … doesn’t come from a store? What if [love], perhaps … means a little bit more?”

This photo seems like a lifetime ago. My husband and I have almost been married an entire year and almost been together for three. While I would like to say that everything has always been a walk in the park, I would be completely lying. We fight, we hurt each other, we cry and scream and breakdown. But you know what? We also laugh loudly and love unconditionally and I just wanted to take a moment and tell the world how much this man means to me. He is my very best friend and the only person I’ve ever felt completely comfortable around. He is my whole heart and I couldn’t imagine my life without him. I know this life is full of disappointment and it’s so hard to live together 100% of the time and not be disappointed in or with each other at some point in time, but Quinn is the only person I would ever want to disappoint me and vice versa. The past few months have been rough on us, I’m not gonna lie. But this weekend, we really recommitted ourselves to one another and to God. We’ve decided to focus more on having a biblical marriage and I can honestly say I haven’t felt this stable, sturdy, and completely happy/relieved in a long time. I loved him then and I love him even more now and that love will only grow and strengthen over time now that we have gotten on the right track for a healthier marriage ? #McRaezyinlove

The saleswoman at the store that day may have been a “Grinch” herself, but she couldn’t take away the love Quinn and Ariel share.

“They aren’t big and they aren’t expensive,” Ariel wrote on Instagram, “but they are the most precious and the most beautiful things in the world to me.”
