Queen Elizabeth II Bestowed Highest Honor on Kate Middleton for 8th Wedding Anniversary
If being a part of the royal family wasn’t enough of an honor, Queen Elizabeth has just given her granddaughter-in-law another reason to feel truly treasured — and on her eighth wedding anniversary, no less!
It didn’t take long for much of the world to fall in love with the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. And it appears the queen feels precisely the same way about William’s other half.

An announcement on the family’s website states, “The Queen has been pleased to make the following appointment to the Royal Victorian Order.”
“To be a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO) – HRH The Duchess of Cambridge.” What does this mean, exactly?

“The personal gift of the Sovereign,” the royal website explains, “this [honor] is awarded to those who have served The Queen or the monarchy in a particular way.”
The Royal Victorian Order originated with — you guessed it — Queen Victoria. Yahoo Lifestyle reports this award was first established in 1896.

Kate Middleton has certainly served her queen and her country. In an article published by Us Weekly, an insider was quoted as saying, “Kate and the queen have always had a special bond…”
“[T]hey developed a deeper friendship after she and [Prince] William moved from Anmer Hall, Norfolk, to Kensington Palace,” the insider continued, “which is within walking distance of Buckingham Palace.”
While looks can be deceiving, the genuine smiles on Queen Elizabeth’s and Duchess Kate’s faces say everything and more.
Whenever these two are spotted together, it’s clear they share a special affinity for one another. Those expressions don’t lie — especially considering the queen’s generally reserved nature.

According to royal expert Rebecca Long, the queen has been looking forward to the day the Duchess of Cambridge will fill her shoes.
“Kate’s been taking on new responsibilities little by little over the last few years, so it won’t be a shock when the time comes,” Rebecca Long told Us Weekly.

“William and Kate are the favorite royals to take the crown in many generations,” she went on, “so the people of the U.K. are very excited about it.”
Duchess Kate always displays grace and poise in all she does, and there is no doubt she will carry those qualities with her when she takes on her new title.
According to People, Duchess Kate’s new honor as a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order is considered “the highest possible rank.”
She will wear a badge as a symbol of this honor: “[A]n ornate Maltese cross surrounded by an eight-pointed silver star,” People explained.
