Blind Little Boy Will Warm Your Heart with His Incredible Piano Talent
There are the talented and then there are those gifted so far beyond our understanding that we can only refer to them as prodigies.
If you haven’t yet witnessed 7-year-old music prodigy Avett Ray Maness display his musical talent, you’re in for a delightful, jaw-dropping surprise.
Avett’s mother, Sara Moore, told NBC Nightly News that her son was just 11 months old when he first reached up to the keys and started to play a melody.
He’s since started taking lessons, but the boy was the one who initiated his own learning.
“I taught myself how to play piano,” Avett explained to NBC. There’s just one little setback: “I’m blind in this eye and visually impaired in this eye,” he went on, describing his disability.

Avett’s disability didn’t keep him from stopping the show — but in the beginning, it wasn’t clear if he’d ever be able to play.
His mom was devastated when she first got the news that her son couldn’t see well. “It felt like I was being told he didn’t have a future,” Moore told NBC.
Though any mother would likely be devastated over receiving such news about their child’s diminished sight, it’s quite clear Avett’s future is bright despite his condition.
When you hear him sing and play the piano, you may just be in awe.
His YouTube channel, Avett Ray, has thousands upon thousands of subscribers. His piano playing reaches beyond what most kids his age — and adults far beyond — are capable of.
“Music is in his body,” Moore told CBS News. “He’s really practicing on performing now. Since his talent is so amazing, people are asking him to perform.”
More recently, those people just so happen to be the ones at “American Idol.” Avett had the opportunity to meet the judges and longtime host, Ryan Seacrest, on a 2019 episode.
Watch as this young man, in the words of Ryan Seacrest, “defies the odds” and performs “Bohemian Rhapsody” during the show’s Queen Week.
What a star! Avett’s got all the talent and more. He’s certainly accurate when he refers to himself as a “viral sensation.”
Way to go, Avett! You are a true inspiration to so many with big dreams. Keep on playing. Maybe one day we’ll even hear you at Carnegie Hall!
