Former 'Biggest Loser' Contestant Dead at Age 30
“Biggest Loser” fans will remember former contestant Daniel Wright from seasons seven and eight of the popular TV show. During the course of the show, Wright demonstrated a fighting spirit as he shed pounds, earned fans and met his wife, Rebecca.
Rebecca and Daniel Wright lost nearly 250 pounds, collectively, on the show in 2009, but had almost gained it all back in 2016, The New York Times reported at the time.
Despite their challenges, the couple kept fighting to be healthy.
Tragically, Wright passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2019, after a long battle with leukemia, Fox News reported. He was 30 years old.
Wright was first diagnosed with the disease in 2017, but he remained optimistic as he fought against the changes that were being made to his body as a result of his diagnosis.
“His faith has never faded, even in the darkest of times. I am honored to have known him!” Courtney Crozier Respess, former “Biggest Loser” contestant, wrote on Facebook.
As Wright battled leukemia, Rebecca Wright kept his fans and loved ones updated via a GoFundMe page. Wright’s health began to improve after chemotherapy and blood transfusions, but when the cancer returned in 2018, he was hospitalized.
“The mountain is now much bigger as relapsed leukemia is harder to beat. There are limited options, but we have a big God!” the GoFundMe page read.
On May 24, Rebecca Wright posted an update on Facebook informing her followers that her husband’s health was declining. Wright passed away two days later.
Since hearing the news, friends and followers have posted messages of condolence and support.
Joe Mitchell, who was also a contestant on the show, wrote a heartfelt tribute to his friend upon hearing the news.
“He was a hero and a man of faith who inspired so many, including me, during his short time on this earth,” Mitchell wrote on Facebook.
“He and his lovely bride showed the whole world what true love, faith and commitment are all about and he will be truly missed.”
Many other “Biggest Loser” contestants have expressed similar sentiments, recalling Wright’s enthusiasm and compassion.
Danny Cahill, winner of the show’s eighth season, wrote that Wright “never missed a chance to double back and encourage every soul in the fight of their lives to keep going, and ensure us we would make it.”
In her post, Respess asked everyone to keep Rebecca Wright in their prayers.
“Please keep him & his beautiful amazing, and beyond strong wife Rebecca Wright in your prayers today as he is being called to heaven,” Respess wrote. “Rebecca will need all of us to lift her up now & for the months & years to come.”
We pray that Wright’s family finds peace and support during this emotionally trying time. Wright will certainly be remembered for the hope and joy he instilled in his fellow contestants and fans.
