Woman Dances with Joy After Kind Stranger Reportedly Stops and Gives Her First-Ever Pair of Shoes
If you could catalog the numerous blessings you enjoyed today alone, they’d likely stagger you. For instance, you’ve probably enjoyed pure water, clean air, an extensive electrical grid, stable internet and clothing to cover yourself.
I’ll bet you take for granted something that millions of people around the world enjoy: shoes. Indeed, from the reaction of one Ugandan woman, it’s a gift that numerous people do not get to experience.
We know that sub-Saharan Africa suffers. The Borgen Project lists some statistics about the continent that will positively turn your stomach.
For instance, it contains three-quarters of the world’s poorest countries. Thirty-three percent of its inhabitants don’t get enough to eat.
And more than a half billion lack electricity, which leads to health issues due to the burning of wood and excrement for energy. But one of the worst problems comes from an unexpected source.
The Guardian reported that Dr. Gail Davey of the Brighton and Sussex Medical School discovered a link between shoelessness and a terrible disease called podoconiosis. It’s essentially elephantiasis.
But this strain of the disease doesn’t originate from parasites. It occurs when a patient walks on volcanic soils — while barefoot.
“It is reversible,” Davey said. “Even the late stages can be improved enormously with careful hygiene and bandaging, and shoes and socks to protect.”
Perhaps that’s why a Ugandan woman’s reaction upon getting a pair of shoes has been making the rounds online.
According to the Newsflare description on the Rumble video, a woman named Laura Grier gave a woman she glimpsed from her car a pair of shoes.
“When I saw the woman on the side of the road barefoot I urged my driver to stop. The woman was barefoot and had never owned shoes before,” Ms. Grier said.
“We stopped the car to pull over and give them to her. Her reaction to wearing the shoes was priceless!”
Indeed, the video opens with the woman positively beaming as a man unlaces the sneakers for her. She begins to bounce up and down in anticipatory joy.
As the first shoe slides on her foot, she gives Grier an enthusiastic thumbs-up. Once the second goes on, the woman finds that she can’t contain her joy anymore.
She literally breaks out into dance. Her body sways side to side.
Then she begins stamping her feet, her arms thrown into the air, her frame spinning in circles. And the entire time, her smile is bright enough to make the sun jealous.
